Finland usually votes in favour of authorising genetically modified plants at the EU level. However, with the exception of some field trials, no GM plants have been cultivated in Finland, so far.
There is no commercial cultivation of GMOs in Finland.
Finland has not seen many applications for field trials with genetically modified plants. Of a total of 22 trials, only one took place in 2004 (potato), and one in 2005 (birch). No Finnish field trials investigated aspects of co-existence. No new field trials have been registered in 2006, 2007 or 2008. See also the JRC register of field trials.
