[SI] Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food continues procedures for adoption of Act on Co-existence
The Slovene Act on the co-existence of genetically modified plants with other agricultural plants that was submitted for notification in December 2006 was coordinated with the European Commission and Slovene Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food is proceeding with its adoption.
The key outstanding issue, which has not yet been harmonized with the European Commission, is the provisions that determine the issue of damages in cases of unintentional presence of GMOs in the other agricultural plants and crops. The Ministry examines different possibilities for compensations such as dedicated budget line or the trust fund. With a view to early adoption of the act and fill the legal vacuum in this area the Ministry will forward the act to the coordination of the coalition, which will be followed by the inter-ministerial coordination and submission to the Parliament.
