[BE] Second reading of the Walloon draft decree on co-existence
A draft co-existence decree was forwarded to the local parliament for its second reading recently in the Walloon region in Belgium.
Walloon Minister of Agriculture Benoît Lutgen is responsible for the new draft decree on co-existence.
The Walloon minister of agriculture, Benoît Lutgen, commented: "The text has been proposed with due respect for the precautionary principle, and with the firm commitment to the development of sustainable agriculture.“
The text proposes a strict regime for co-existence, and requires farmers wishing to grow GM crops to have the authorisation of the Walloon authority for food control. The draft decree has been notified to the European Commission and the information about this can be found at the European Commission's website.
