Both traceability and labelling are covered by the EU Directives 1829/2003 and 1830/2003.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority is the surveying authority. The results to date show that labelling of GMO products only occasionally leads to problems. However, in April 2007, Greenpeace found an unauthorised variety of GM corn in a ship from the US. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority confirmed this analysis. In response to this incident, the corn, meant for feed, was withdrawn from the market and the inspection of incoming ships from the US was sharpened. The corn did not pose any risks for humans or for the environment.
