The Food Standard Agency (FSA) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs approached stakeholders with the EC labelling directive in 2004 for consultation. The national regulations in England for genetically modified food and feed came into force on 4 October 2004.
Following consultation, comments were analysed and used to adapt the EC directive to national policy. Copies are available from Her Majesty's Stationery Office. Similar regulations will apply in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. A separate Statutory Instrument on traceability and labelling came into force on 8 October 2004.
