First of all I would like to know what is the risk of “illegal rice”. It is “illegal” because it did not pass all testing or all bureaucratic procedure. The study by Rita Batista, et. al., (Proceedings of the national academy of sciences, Vol. 105, No. 9, Mar. 4, 2008) clearly indicated by experiment- what was clear to molecular biologists from the beginning of “GMO psychosis” – that radiation mutants (rice) has more modified proteins than GMO. Consequently, the probability of health problems is higher with radiation mutants. Reading the reports of IAEA and/or the database by IAEA and FAO, we can learn that we are eating radiation mutants (rice) not knowing they are mutants, and we do not care. See, e.g, the report of 2000: “The mutant variety ‘TNDB100’, which was developed from a traditional variety after radiation treatment and officially released in Viet Nam in 1997, now covers more than 200 000 hectares (ha) in the Mekong Delta.“ This rice is on sale without health tests comparable with tests of GMO. And nobody cares such incident.
