Switzerland: introduction of tolerance levels for trace admixtures of GMOs
The directive for deliberate release of GMOs has been revised due to a tightening of genetic engineering and environment protection laws. New is the introduction of tolerance levels for trace admixtures of GMOs that have not (yet) been approved in Switzerland. That would allow for animal feed imports into Switzerland under specific conditions, containing less than 0.5% of GMOs that have been authorised in the US or Canada.
Up to now, there has been zero tolerance for imports containing a GMO variety that is not approved in either Switzerland or the EU. With this new regulation, an adequate animal feed supply in Switzerland should be ensured in future. The revision went into effect on 1 October. The revised animal feed regulation has been in effect since 1 September.
